In this talk, Professor Rachel Pries of Colorado State University will first explain the difference between ordinary and supersingular elliptic curves. There are some fascinating open conjectures about supersingular curves and more generally Newton polygons of curves.
Finally, she will describe some of her recent work about curves whose Newton polygons contain many slopes of 1/2. Some of this talk includes joint work with Li, Mantovan, and Tang.
