“Black Women and Pleasure: Lessons We Should Learn”

Inspired by Black Lives Matter, a movement started by Black women, and drawing from her forthcoming books, “See Me Naked: Defining Black Women’s Pleasure During the Interwar Era” and “Love, Activism, and the Respectable Life of Alice Dunbar-Nelson,” Dr. Tara T. Green will share her knowledge of how Black women resist.

Letters, diaries, songs, and interviews show Black women of the early twentieth century who fought hard, endured the stress of fighting, but also searched for and found ways to “go within themselves.” It is important to us, especially now, to hear them speak and learn what they knew: that pleasure is a right and a privilege they would and should not be denied.
